Specialist assessment of Arthritic conditions

Arthritis incorporates over 200 conditions and we recognise that every patient's experience will be different. Providing relief and treatment for arthritis have been the foundation of the Centre's work, so you can be assured that you will be in expert hands.

Rheumatology

Rheumatoid Arthritis is one condition which can affect patients of all ages and involve joints, bones, muscles and other body systems. Thanks to our extensive work and experience in this field, we know how important it is to consider a patient's day-to-day life when assessing the severity of the condition and ways in which it may be managed.

Latest Clinical Outcomes

Since April this year, the Healthcare Commission has begun collecting key performance indicators (KPIs) from healthcare providers. The Horder Centre's own KPIs have been established for a number of years and this year is no exception:

Surgical site infections (hip replacement patients)

0.8%

Surgical site infections (knee replacement patients)

0.1%

Unplanned re-admissions within 31 days of discharge

0.7%

Unplanned returns to theatre

0.4%

Unplanned transfers to another hospital

0.8%

Based on a total of 2,240 patients during 2005/6.

At The Horder Centre, patient care is our top priority and infection control procedures are integral to that commitment.

We recognise the importance of managing infections by observing strict guidelines designed to control and reduce infection rates as set out by the Government. Equally, we understand that the well-being of our patients is greatly improved if they can be reassured that our hospital is dedicated to creating the optimum conditions to avert incidences of risk of infection.

To reflect our commitment to that promise, we reported just three cases of infection to the Healthcare Commission during 2006, representing 0.002% of the 1,271 joint operations conducted at the hospital during that year. In each case, the infections, which were not MRSA related, were successfully treated.

The level of a hospital's cleanliness is a key contributor to the rate of infections spread. At The Horder Centre, we are proud of our high standards of cleanliness and pleased to announce that we achieved a 95% excellent and 5% good from a questionnaire sent to 2,241 patients of which 67% completed and returned the forms.
