Professional Profile

Mr Rajaratnam is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at the Eastbourne District General Hospital.

His main clinical interests are:

Knees
Mr Rajaratnam is a fellowship trained knee surgeon and performs both primary and revision knee arthroplasty and minimally invasive partial joint replacements of the knee. In conjunction with consultant colleagues he has pioneered day case knee ligament surgery which has been introduced to our patients. He has an interest in cartilage repair techniques and is in the process of setting up a National Multicentre Trial to evaluate the latest techniques available. Mr Rajaratnam also has an interest in accelerated rehabilitation after knee reconstructions and early patient discharge.

Foot and Ankle
Mr Rajaratnam is a forefoot surgeon and undertakes a number of reconstructive procedures for fore and mid foot deformities.

Hips
Mr Rajaratnam is a fellowship trained hip surgeon and performs minimally invasive hip surgery on a routine basis.

Mr Rajaratnam is passionate about uncovering new advances in knee and lower limb surgery and is in the process of setting up trials to evaluate new knee replacement designs and improved bio materials in knee and lower limb surgery. He is also setting up a national cartilage repair trial using the latest techniques to address articular cartilage surface defect within the knee.

Personal Profile

Outside of work, Mr Rajaratnam is a keen sportsman enjoying numerous sports which include golf, cricket, tennis, badminton and rugby. He also enjoys playing the piano and accordion.

Mr Rajaratnam is married with two young children and lives in Summerhill near Eastbourne.
