Professional Profile

Mr Armitage did his basic medical training at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. As a junior doctor he worked for several years in Oxford before joining the South East Thames Orthopaedic Rotation at registrar level. He did a sports medicine fellowship in Perth, Western Australia in 2001/2.

Mr Armitage was appointed Orthopaedic Consultant with a specialist interest in knee surgery at Eastbourne District General Hospital in 2003. He joined The Horder Centre in August 2004.

He has a general orthopaedic interest in lower limb surgery from hip to foot. His specialist orthopaedic interest is the knee and he provides both an arthroplasty (joint replacement) service as well as a soft tissue/sports service. Mr Armitage performs half knee replacements and full knee replacements as well as carrying out a significant number of revision replacements for patients in the South East.

From a sports injury perspective, Mr Armitage performs simple arthroscopy and menisectomy as well as ligament reconstruction (primarily the anterior cruciate ligament) and soft tissue balancing operations such as patella stabilisation and re-alignment procedures.

He is a member of various knee groups and societies and he is involved in local research regarding knee surgery.

Personal Profile

Having trained in London Mr Armitage was keen to escape to the South Coast and initially lived in Brighton for 5 years before moving to Eastbourne where he has been for the last 8 years. He enjoys spending as much time as he can with his young family hoping to bring a bit of balance to an otherwise busy orthopaedic career.

In his 20s Mr Armitage carried out a large amount of sport. However, recently he has just taken up tennis with a view to getting fitter and to ensure he can continue beating his two boys!

Mr Armitage has a 40 year-old classic car (Alfa Romeo 1600 Stepnose GTV) which he enjoys tinkering with and taking on Goodwood track days etc.
