Former patients spoke of their experiences of the Horder Centre at our recent patient forum meeting

Linda Forbes-Cooper

Linda Forbes-Cooper from Colchester wrote such a wonderful letter to The Horder Centre back in December to express her thanks that we just had to share it. Writing to thank the Centre’s staff, and in particular her Surgeon Mr Skyrme, she wrote:

As you may recall you replaced both of my hips on 31st January. I write to express my immense gratitude to you and The Horder Centre. By cutting out my hips, you took away the indescribable pain and gave me back my life.

Your staff, both in the Outpatients Department and the accommodation quarters, have been amazing – they are warm and caring. It has been akin to having an extended loving family.

As I promised my late husband, I am now off to New Zealand for 6 weeks (stopping for 3 days in Dubai and 2 days in Sydney each way).

I shall always be indebted to you.

Love to you all,

Linda

Mrs Stella Brown

Mrs Stella Brown is 77 years old and lives in Maidstone, Kent. Only a couple of years ago she had a total hip replacement and is now really beginning to feel the benefits that the operation has given to her life. Prior to the operation, Stella had been in a lot of pain which contributed to a fall, resulting in a hip operation at The Horder Centre shortly after. “Before the treatment I’d had nearly two years of constant pain but The Horder Centre changed all that!” enthuses Stella. “I was at the hospital for four days and I can only liken the experience to staying in a four star hotel! I had my own room with private bathroom and the care and attention I received was marvellous!” On the day she left hospital she was well enough to manage a trip to Sainsbury’s with her family – that’s how quickly things changed for her. Stella’s life really has changed since her operation and she has been able to go on exciting family trips to exotic destinations over the past few years. “This summer I went to the Cape Verde Islands, it was a six hour flight, but I absolutely loved it. A trip like this was something I could never have contemplated before my operation, but now I do pretty much whatever I want! I can’t thank the staff at The Horder Centre enough for the way my life has improved. I’m always telling my friends about the Centre just in case they might need an operation.” Stella is currently planning her next holiday but hasn’t decided on a destination yet – after all the world is now her oyster!
